Sea Pines Resort-Hilton Head S.C.

Harbour Town LighthouseImage by Wildcat Dunny via Flickr

Sea Pines Resort - Hilton Head Island, SC

In 1956, just five short years after the introduction of electricity onto Hilton Head Island, Charles Fraser purchased land on the southwestern tip of the island in order to develop the community now known as Sea Pines Plantation. The first of Hilton Head's plantation communities, Sea Pines covers over 5,000 acres of thriving natural environment reminiscent of Eden and offers over five miles of gorgeous public-accessible beaches.

Real Estate Information - Homes, Condos, Lots

In 1958, the first deed to a Sea Pines Plantation lot was signed and within four years, beachfront prices grew by close to 50%. Examining the current real estate market for new homesites, homes, villas, and condos, it's easy to see why the prices have continued to grow so drastically. From small, picturesque cottages to sprawling mansions, the Sea Pines Plantation community contains everything you could want when looking to invest in a home. Numerous single- to five-bedroom homes are available, ranging from $450,000 to over $8,000,000.

Starting at only $300,000-a small fee considering the location-either renting or purchasing is within reason. Potential buyers may choose among one- to four-bedroom for-sale villas and condos with as many view choices as the full-size homes, and options for potential renters include the vacation rentals surrounding the Harbour Town Village. The prices crest around $2 million, making Sea Pines Plantation villas and condos very affordable vacation or year-round homes.

Oceanfront lots can cost over $6 million but a patio lot can cost as little as $295k. Homesites with golf or lagoon views often sell for over $1 milion. Currently, there are four beachfront lots with varying price tags, but the number of lots for sale is always subject to change.

Sea Pines installed Hilton Head Island's first security gates in 1967, and to date remains secure with two 24-hour security entrance facilities on site. Security personnel also patrol the plantation's streets, and they can (and do) issue tickets fining offenders for the infraction of plantation rules. Additional protection is provided by the Beaufort County Sheriff's Department's deputies.

Resort Features

Harbour Town Village and Marina

The Harbour Town village and marina was fashioned after small French and Italian harbors and developed for intimacy and ambience. This Mediterranean-influenced center offers independently-owned and operated clothing/jewelry boutiques, craft shops, dining, live music entertainment, and every water sport available. Harbour Town has a park and a tree house for children, as well as a nature center. The Gregg Russell Playground, named for the entertainer of Harbour Town for 25 years running, is located right next to Liberty Oak. Sea Pines' quaint village center also offers a free trolley that runs daily, with varying hours of operation throughout the year between Harbour Town, South Beach Village, and Turtle Lane Beach Club.

Harbour Town Yacht Basin

Consider owning a 'dockominium' at the yacht club: it's like a condo on the water, but your land is your boat slip. The many amenities available at the Yacht Basin include the unique shops, restaurants, and a grocery store all in the same complex. Concerts and other forms of entertainment are frequently held on the nearby golfing green where Harbour Town Golf Links sponsors tournaments including the Verizon Heritage every year.

South Beach Village The second marina in the Sea Pines Resort is designed after New England fishing villages and is located at the southernmost tip of Hilton Head Island. Nature tours, dolphin tours, kayaking, and parasailing are only a handful of the activities available near the home of The Salty Dog Café. For accommodations, the colorful South Beach Inn is located nearby at the southern tip of the island and arranges both weekly and nightly rates.

Activities

54 Holes of Golf

Sea Pines contains the island's first golf course, the Ocean Course designed by George Cobb, was built in 1959. Restructured by Mike McCumber in September, 1995, the highlight of the Ocean Course is its 15th hole with a sweeping view of the ocean.

George Cobb also designed the 1967 Sea Marsh Course. Remodeled by Clyde Johnson in 1990, the Sea Marsh course-like the Ocean Course-is known not only for its age and elegance but for becoming a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary. Watch out for the 13th hole; it extends for 163 yards.

Harbour Town Golf Links, developed in 1970 by Pete Dye and Jack Nicklaus, is and has been home to the PGA's Verizon Heritage Classic since 1969, when it was first won by Arnold Palmer. Among the many features of this famous course is its photogenic 18th hole, with Harbour Town's Lighthouse in the background. Noted for excellence in design and playing potential, the par-71 Harbour Town Golf Links has been ranked highly among the country's finest golf courses by multiple magazines since 1971.

Championship Tennis

The Sea Pines Racquet Club, directed by world-renowned coach and U.S. Open and Wimbledon champion Stan Smith, hosted the Family Circle Cup from 1973 to 2000, and frequently other tournaments, such as the Corel Champions Tour, the Dupont All-American, the World Invitational, and the Stan Smith Invitational, among others. The club boasts 23 clay courts and offers private and semi-private lessons.

Forest Preserve

When Charles Fraser began developing Sea Pines in the early '50s, he concentrated on keeping the island's abundance of natural beauty as untouched as possible. To this day Sea Pines' Forest Preserve covers approximately 605 acres, home to diverse flora and fauna including over 200 species of critters as well as lagoons and salt marshes. Here you will find a Wildflower Meadow, a thousand-foot-long boardwalk, the Low Ropes Team Building Course, and miles of bike trails and walking paths. Even fishing is allowed, albeit with the correct permit.

Are you a history fanatic? Sea Pines Plantation Forest Preserve has its share of historic landmarks. The 4,000-year-old Indian Shell Ring, for example, is believed to have been constructed around 1450 B. C. A circle of shells and bones piled several feet high, it is one of only twenty shell rings still in existence. Those responsible for its assembly are also believed to have invented pottery here, in North America.

The Stoney-Baynard ruins, once an 18th century plantation house, are now open for tours. The property is covered with oyster shells and its architecture includes porthole-shaped windows.

Horseback Riding

Lawton Stables is home to 50+ American Saddlebred horses, a breed generated by crossing Narragansett Pacer, Thoroughbred, and Morgan bloodlines to develop gorgeous, well-tempered animals now often used for show. Lawton Stables offers-at affordable rates-not only English riding lessons to residents and visitors, but also pony rides for children and guided tours through Sea Pines' fantastic natural Forest Preserve.

This picturesque, sprawling community, bordering the Atlantic Ocean on the east and Calibogue Sound on the west, is ideal for vacationers and residents alike. Villas, Condos, Homes, and available Lots for building that dreamhouse abound in this massive complex just waiting for the perfect family to enjoy the many amenities offered.

By all likelihood, Jim Furyk was already on his way to winning the Verizon Heritage on the first playoff hole Sunday evening at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head, S.C.

Still, when Furyk officially did claim the title, it didn't feel like victories are supposed to feel.

"It was an awkward moment," he said. "An awkward way to win."

Furyk was on his way to victory because his second shot on No.18, the hole where the picturesque old lighthouse stands guard, had landed on the green and trickled to the back fringe, sitting in wait for a reasonably easy two-putt par. Furyk's playoff opponent, Brian Davis, meanwhile, had put himself in a far-more challenging predicament in the sudden-death playoff.

Davis, a 35-year-old Englishman seeking his first victory in his sixth season on the PGA Tour, only had an opportunity to hit his third shot because he wasn't attempting it at high tide.

With his second swing on the par-4 18th Davis had pushed his taylormade golf ball left. It kicked left into rocks that border the shoreline of the harbor, and then bounced into the hard, wet sand and clumps of sea grass left behind by a receding water line.

So, at best it was a long shot, but, while no bargain, Davis was remarkably still alive.

At least Davis was until he blasted out of the soggy mess with an extremely fine shot to inside 30 feet of the pin -- and promptly summoned Tour tournament director and rules official Slugger White over to call a penalty on himself.

The location from where Davis hit the shot was beyond the hazard stakes. When inside a hazard, a player is prohibited by the Rules of Golf from touching a loose impediment before the shot.

Davis told White that, as he brought his wholesale golf club back during takeaway, he believed the backswing had caused a stalk in a clump of soggy, dead reeds to move.

"I didn't feel it. But I was pretty sure I saw -- I was actually closing my eyes coming down into the sand," Davis said. "It was one of those things I thought I saw movement out of the corner of my eye."

Moments later, a television replay confirmed Davis' fear and the two-stroke penalty made Furyk's routine two-putt par and second victory of the season almost anticlimactic.

"It was really strange, all these reeds that were loose, most of them were going this way, and this one reed was sticking out just outside his ball (used taylor made golf clubs)," White said. "He looked and looked, and when he took the club away he ticked it. And he immediately came to me -- I couldn't see it. The wind was blowing, so I couldn't see it against the sand. And he assured me that he ticked it when he took the club away. He called it on himself immediately."

Summer Vacations

As families begin planning their 2012 coming summer vacations, now is the time to be shopping around and looking for deals. With the current global economy, there are many deals to be had and every penny saved is a plus for families. One of your first stops should be a travel agent or travel agent website. travel agencies can work out complete vacation packages at a larger reduced rate than can the average individual. Simple economics works in a travel agencies favor as they deal in large mass buying and selling of tickets. Theme park admission prices can drastically be reduced,if not fully free by simply investigating what deals these agencies are offering. Call a local one today or visits their website. These types of deals change frequently, almost like airline tickets, so staying in contact with an agent is advised. In the past few years i have calculated the savings by using a travel agencies and honsetly it cannot be beat on the open amrket by any individual. For example, two years ago we booked a trip to Disney Resorts. The total price for 4 people including resort room for 7 days and 7 nights AND included them park admission to Disney World, Animal Kingdom, Epcot Center and Hollywood Studios was $2,300. Theme park ticket prices alone would have cost 4 people that mjuch for 7 days so in essence the lodging was tossed in almost free.

PGA Championship 2012

A worldwide event is coming to South Carolina in 2012, The PGA Championship.

Charleston South Carolina and Kiawah Island are getting ready and set to host the 2012 PGA Championship. Those interested in purchasing tickets for the tournament must fill out a questionaire at pga2012.com. Tickets will not be sold until Nov. 15, but those who register will have priority based on when they register.

The PGA of America plans to offer no more than 10,000 of its week-long Wanamaker Club passes at $450 each. The event will also offer daily tickets, which Warren said have not been traditionally available for recent PGA Championships. Single-day tickets for practice Monday and Tuesday are $30, Wednesday is $50 while each day of the championship will cost $90.

Sterba said active military personnel will receive complimentary tickets, as will juniors 17 and under when accompanied by a ticket holder.

About The OCean Course:

The Ocean Course is the most famous course at Kiawah Island. It was designed by Pete & Alice Dye, and it opened in 1991.[1] The course was designed so that players have a view of the shoreline of the Atlantic Ocean but also to expose golfers to the often-strong winds in the area.[1] The Ocean Course has been consistently named as one of the best courses in the world by several publications such as Golf Digest and Golf Magazine as well as being named a "Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary" by Audubon International. As of 2010, the Ocean Course was rated 25th in Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Golf Courses in America.

The Ocean Course is a par 72 course. From the tournament tees, the Ocean Course measures 7,356 yards with a slope rating of 155 and course rating of 79.6, the highest in the country, according to the United States Golf Association. The course has unmarked tee boxes that can stretch the course to 7,873 yards. Because of its large slopes, numerous bunkers, and challenging Bermuda grass, it was named the toughest course in America in 2010 by Golf Digest.

The Ocean Course was featured in the 2000 film The Legend of Bagger Vance. In October 2008, the Ocean Course became the first course to be available to play in the online video game that was developed by World Golf Tour. Helicopters equipped with cameras and GPS tracking devices were used to photograph and record the entire course to produce a geographically accurate simulation

Universal Studios Orlando Florida

Universal Studios in Orlando Florida is a must plan destination for any family. Universal Studios is actually almost 2 different theme parks, one is called Island of Adventures and the other Universal Studios. Island of Adventures is where the new Harry Potter ride and village is located. Both parks have some entertaining rides and are right next to each other. We were able to see and enjoy most of both parks in one full day, however it may take 2-3 days if you want to catch all the entertaining interactive shows. If you are planning a trip to enjoy these theme parks i would highly suggest staying at one of the Universal resort hotels like the Hard Rock Hotel. One of the benefits of staying at one of these resorts is you get an early access to the Harry Potter ride one hour before the park even opens. This is really neat and can pay off as during the day the ride wait time can get to be close to an hour. The other benefit is they offer free water taxi to theme park via Citywalk which is right at the entrance. The Hard Rock Hotel is also a very short walk down a lighted path for those seeking excersize on vacation. Overall the trip is one worth making and later in the column i will go over each ride and attraction.

Many of the rides have height requirements of 44 inches or higher, so this is important to remember when bringing younger children to the park. Thrilling rides like The Hulk" require you to be 54 inches. Overall the park ahs many rides for all ages and is customized for children around the ages of 7-15 easily. Dudley Do Right has a water ride where you will get totally soaked. and The Popeye ride you will also get soaked. During the summer months it is best to plan a day to wear only your bathing suit and a shirt and enjoy the cool water rides.

For numerous people, a family holiday is explained as a tour to Disneyland or Disney World. At the present time you can chart out your trip, and get plenty of useful information, at home with just a click of a mouse.

Despite the fact that it is much smaller than Orlando's Walt Disney World, Disneyland California has a unique place in the Disney pantheon as the abode of the creative Magic Kingdom ,the classic theme park with Adventureland, Fantasyland, etc. that come into sight also at Disney World in Orlando, and at other Disneylands in the whole world. This theme park -- called the Disneyland Park-- is at the moment only part of the Disneyland Resort; in 2001, a subsequent theme park was commenced, the 55-acre Disney's California Adventure Park, that is going through an enormous reconstruction. Families should sketch a tour minimum of two days, to visit both the parks peacefully and without panicing the whole thing.

For its succeeding park, Disneyland could have pinched inspiration from Walt Disney World and vanished with an idea tried and true such as Epcot in fact, there were preparations at one time to build up a park called "Westcot" or, given its closeness to Hollywood, Disney-MGM Studios as the company has finished with its second Paris park. As a substitute, Disney tried something audicious and evolved an completely new park based on California--the state and the state of mind. Nevertheless, the company failed to remember something extremely important as it was scheming DCA: places of attraction. With about one-third the number of rides and shows at Disneyland Park, there is not as much to do here. And an astonishing number of the park's rides are off-the-shelf rotating and whirling rides. Initially, numerous of the attractions did not catch the attention of the young children. With the opening of the Bug's Land area, it has changed for the better.

For all of its inadequacy however, DCA does have some grand magnetism and pulls and of course great and amazing themes. And with trimmings such as the Tower of Terror and the Aladdin stage show, it is developing and growing in the right direction. Highlights * Disney's Aladdin-- A Musical Spectacular * Soarin' Over California simulator ride * It's Tough to Be a Bug 3-D film * The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror * Jim Henson's Muppet*Vision 3-D film * California Screamin' launched steel coaster * Disney's Electrical Parade

Cheap Airfare to Cuba is coming! IT is now possible to fly to Cuba. U.S. President Barack Obama has directed officials to look at the possibility of starting regularly scheduled commercial flights between the United States and Cuba, the White House said on Monday.a Cuban American can now take a 45-minute flight to visit relatives in Cuba at any time for about $500 per round trip.

Flights Under $200 (728x90)

From Miami, seven charter companies currently fly to Cuba. All go to Havana, and some also fly to Camaguey, Holguin, Cienfuegos and Santiago de Cuba. In total, they fly more than 35 flights a week from Miami. Carriers also fly from New York.

Obama is also ending restrictions on how much money Cuban- Americans can send family members, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters today. U.S. telecommunications companies can now apply for licenses to operate in Cuba, easing the commercial embargo against the country, a move that an administration statement said may enable them to provide television and mobile-phone service in Cuba.

“This is a significant step in reaching out to the Cuban people and supporting their desires to live in freedom,” said Daniel Restrepo, a special assistant to the president. Competition in the Caribbean for tourism has led to a lot of great deals out there, which helps out considerably for those looking for cheap flights to Cuba. With lots of charter flights to choose from and a growing amount of Cuba vacation packages, it’s almost harder to pay full price than find a deal. Again, should you book your Cuba airline tickets during the high season, you can expect to pay more, but that doesn’t mean the prices exactly skyrocket. It’s still possible to find deals during these months by simply weighing your options.

Jose Martí International Airport outside Havana is the main gateway and is served by major airlines from points in Canada, Mexico, and Europe. There are also regional flights from other Caribbean islands. Cuba's national carrier is Cubana de Aviacion , connecting the island to a handful of destinations in Mexico, South and Central America, Canada and Europe. You can book online flights to Cuba in The H Travel .

An official taxi to Havana center costs 25 CUC but you can find cheaper (illegal) ones. The cost is roughly 1 CUC per kilometer. There is a new bus service from the Terminal One (domestic flights) to La Habana Centro. So if you arrive in Cuba before 8 pm you can ask the Taxi driver to bring you there and wait for the bus (1 CUC for the Taxi and a few cents for the bus).

There are also regular holiday charter flights to resorts such as Varadero, and these can sometimes be less expensive than those going to Havana.

The airports are all fully-air-conditioned and quite modern, compared to other destinations in the Caribbean, offer good medical care in case of problems, and are usually relatively hassle free.

Your checked luggage, though, is at great risk. It is increasingly common for your luggage to be opened and anything of value removed. This used to be a problem at Jose Marti International (Havana) only, now it seems to have spread to all airports. Packing valuables in checked luggage is extremely risky - if not foolish.

President Barack Obama directed his administration Monday to allow unlimited travel and money transfers by Cuban Americans to family in Cuba, and to take other steps to ease U.S. restrictions on the island, a senior administration official told The Associated Press. The formal announcement was being made at the White House Monday afternoon, during presidential spokesman Robert Gibbs' daily briefing with reporters. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement had not yet been made. Obama had promised to take these steps as a presidential candidate. It has been known for over a week that he would announce them ahead of his attendance this weekend at a Summit of the Americas in Trinidad and Tobago.Orbitz "There are no better ambassadors for freedom than Cuban Americans," Obama said in a campaign speech last May in Miami, the heart of the U.S. Cuban-American community. "It's time to let Cuban Americans see their mothers and fathers, their sisters and brothers. It's time to let Cuban American money make their families less dependent upon the Castro regime." Other steps taken Monday include expanding the things allowed in gift parcels being sent to Cuba, such as clothes, personal hygiene items, seeds, fishing gear and other personal necessities. The administration also will begin issuing licenses to allow telecommunications and other companies to provide cell and television services to people on the island, and to allow family members to pay for relatives on Cuba to get those services, the official said. Last May, former President George W. Bush announced a new policy that people living in the United States could include cell phones in gift parcels sent to Cubans. At the time, Bush aides said that U.S. residents could pay for the cell service attached to phones they send. However, though American cell phones with service contracts from the U.S. work on some parts of the island, service is not always reliable and depends on the phones' specifications. Sending money to senior government officials and Communist Party members remains prohibited under Obama's new policy. Restrictions imposed by the Bush administration had limited Cuban travel by Americans to just two weeks every three years. Visits also were confined to immediate family members. Francisco Hernandez, head of the exile group the Cuban American National Foundation, was once a staunch supporter of travel restrictions but supported Obama's announcement, saying he hopes it will inspire both sides to reconsider long-held positions. It will help Cubans become more independent of the state "not only in economic terms but in terms of information, and contacts with the outside world," said Hernandez, who was imprisoned by the Cuban government for nearly two years after participating in the 1961 failed Bay of Pigs invasion. Miami travel agent Tesie Aral said her phone has been ringing nonstop in anticipation of the announcement, with a tenfold increase last Friday alone. "People were already planning to travel more based on their ability to go every 12 months," said Aral, owner of ABC Charters. "Whether they can travel more frequently than that depends on the economy." Also in that Miami speech nearly a year ago, Obama promised to depart from what he said had been the path of previous politicians on Cuba policy — "they come down to Miami, they talk tough, they go back to Washington, and nothing changes in Cuba." "Never, in my lifetime, have the people of Cuba known freedom. Never, in the lives of two generations of Cubans, have the people of Cuba known democracy," he said then. "This is the terrible and tragic status quo that we have known for half a century — of elections that are anything but free or fair; of dissidents locked away in dark prison cells for the crime of speaking the truth. I won't stand for this injustice, you won't stand for this injustice, and together we will stand up for freedom in Cuba." He also promised to engage in direct diplomacy with Cuba, "without preconditions" but with "careful preparation" and "a clear agenda."Airlines flying to CubaOrbitz Popularity Name Condor flights Air Europa flights Bahamasair flights Aerocaribbean flights Lacsa/Lineas Aereas Costarricenses SA flights Blue Panorama flights Cubana flights Cayman Airways flights JetairFly flights Copa flights Lynx Air International flights Air Caraibes flights Mexicana flights Aeroflot flights LAN Airlines flights Air France flights Martinair flights Corsair flights Thomson Flights flights Virgin Atlantic flights LTU flights flythomascook.com flights Livingston flights Avianca flights Air Berlin flights Air Comet flights Star Airlines flights Iberia flights TACA flights Air Canada flights Air Jamaica flights

Menorca

Experience a Different Mediterranean with Menorca Holidays by Brenda Jaaback

If you enjoy Mediterranean resorts that offer sweeping vistas of horizon-to-horizon high-rise blocks, nightclubs and vast amusement parks, then Menorca holidays may not be for you.

This island has worked very hard, for over 50 years or so, to retain an original Balearic charm and culture. Here the emphasis is, for the most part, on tranquillity and relaxation rather than the 24/7 ‘dance-till-you-drop’ experiences that one may find in other parts of the developed Mediterranean.

Contrary to what some people may believe, each of the major islands of the Balearics has its own individual culture and history. On Menorca, the local people and authorities have always placed a high-value on preserving the natural beauty of their island - and this has paid dividends. Menorca holidays offer you chance to experience that authentic pre-development Balearic culture.

Of course, the island does have some developed resorts. It caters to people of all tastes, however the overriding emphasis is on families, security and a relaxed holiday experience. The capital city of Mahon is a charming mélange of styles of past ages, and its narrow winding streets and cafes are well worth exploring if you are looking for a change from the beach. There are many things to see including one of the largest natural harbours in the world and a gin distillery.

Although not widely known, the British once held Menorca (Admiral Byng, who lost the island to the French, was court-martialled and shot for doing so), and you can still see British influence in some of the city’s architecture. The island is also famous for its beaches, which some claim to be the best in Spain. Some of them have beautiful white sand and safe bathing - although it is always a good idea to check carefully with prevailing local safety guidelines.

Perhaps one of the great attractions of Menorca holidays is that it is relatively easy to get off of the beaten track and away from crowds of people. There are numerous opportunities for walking and experiencing the local wildlife and plant life. Perhaps one of the best-known examples is the now fully restored Cami de Cavalls which is an ancient coastal footpath that completely circumnavigates the island. It was originally used to help keep a look out for pirates and other invaders and today it offers some stunning scenery and the opportunity to nature watch.

So if your idea of a holiday is small and charming rather than big and brash, then Menorca holidays may be for you.

Brenda Jaaback is the Managing Director of Bartle Holidays. They can provide you with a wide selection of great villas for your Menorca holidays . Bartle Holidays makes no warranty as to the accuracy of information contained in this article and excludes any liability of any kind for the information.
